What is ScoreSave?
How long does CALI keep student scores?
We will keep scores for as long as the student is a student and one year longer. We will never delete anything without attempting to contact the student first and we will let any scores 'age' at least a year before deleting.
When a student saves a score, who else can see it?
- The first exception is when the student explicitly indicates that they want to submit the score for review by a faculty member. This would be in conjunction with the LessonLink and/or AutoPublish services described in their respective FAQ.
- The second exception is that CALI will use the scores as a way to improve its lessons without revealing any personal detail about the student. When used in aggregate, scores can be used by CALI to determine if there are improvements to be made to a CALI lessons. The aggregate scores of all students who take a lesson may be shared with the lesson's author to see if there are ways to refine or improve the lesson for future students.
Once I save a score, can I delete it later?
How do I save a score from a CALI lesson?
First of all, the ScoreSave feature only works with the Flash versions of CALI-Author lessons. The HTML/Javascript (i.e. Web versions) and the CALI-Author/VB (i.e. Windows versions) do not allow you to save your scores.
You can save your score anytime while running the Flash version of the lesson. Just click the SCORE button and a separate browser window will open asking you login to the CALI website (if you have not already done so) and the score will be uploaded. If you already have saved a score, you will be asked if you want to replace an already saved score on the website.
Are students ever going to be able to save scores from the Web or Windows versions of CALI lessons?
Do all CALI lessons allow students to save their scores?
No. Only CALI lessons written with CALI-Author (over 80% of the lessons) and lessons AutoPublished have ScoreSave. Some of our lessons were written using other programming environments and we will be working over the next several years - lesson by lesson - to determine if they can be retrofitted with ScoreSave.
You will be able to tell if a lesson supports ScoreSave by the icon and text notes we will include next to the button that launches the lesson.
What about FERPA?
Can faculty see scores saved with ScoreSave?
If you just run a lesson from the CALI website and save the score, then NO, faculty cannot see your score. If you do want your instructor to see your score and you have already saved it, your best option is to print the webpage that shows your score.
Additionally, if faculty use the links to lessons from TWEN faculty cannot see their students' scores, althought students can save their scores.
Can I use ScoreSave to save a lesson and return to it later?
No. ScoreSave is designed only to save your lesson score at the point you choose to click the button. It is not designed to save your place in a lesson so that you can return to it later.
Why does my pop-up blocker block my attempt to save my score?
The ScoreSave process displays your saved information in a new browser window so that you can return to the lesson you are running if you wish. If you have a pop-up blocker running you need to tell it to allow pop-ups from http://www2.cali.org/. Please check you pop-up blocker's help system for information on how to allow pop-ups from certain specific sites. If you do not set your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups from the CALI website you will not be able to save your score.
